You may have injured your knee playing sports years ago, hurt your back at work, or dealt with pain after an accident that eventually seemed to go away. Then, months or even years later, that same area starts bothering you again.
Old injuries can sometimes cause problems long after the original pain has improved. Changes in activity, repetitive movements, aging, or simply putting more stress on the area can bring discomfort back.
Even after an injury heals, the affected area may not always return completely to how it felt before. Muscles can weaken, joints can stiffen, and movement patterns may change as your body adjusts.
Over time, additional stress on the area can contribute to pain or discomfort. This may become more noticeable after starting a new workout routine, returning to a sport, spending more time on your feet, or performing repetitive movements at work.
Some occasional soreness may improve with rest, but recurring pain shouldn't always be ignored. Symptoms such as swelling, weakness, limited movement, numbness, tingling, or pain that continues to return may be a reason to have the area evaluated.
It is also important not to assume that pain in the same area is automatically being caused by the original injury. A medical evaluation can help determine what may be contributing to your current symptoms.
If an old injury is starting to interfere with work, exercise, sleep, or everyday activities, Garden State Pain & Orthopedics can help evaluate your symptoms and discuss treatment options based on your needs.
