Pregabalin (Lyrica) is an anti-epileptic drug used for the treatment of neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, post-herpetic neuralgia, and as an adjunct therapy for partial seizures. The systemic (IUPAC) description of pregabalin is (S)-3-(aminomethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid and its molecular formula is C8H17NO2. It has a molecular weight of 159.23. Pfizer, Inc. introduced this drug (under the trade name Lyrica) and it was approved in the European Union in 2004 and by the FDA (initially for the treatment of epilepsy, diabetic neuropathic pain, and post-herpetic neuralgia) in December 2004.
